Unlocking iPhoneWhy Unlock?Apple Inc. only allows iPhones to be operated through its exclusively appointed networks. Thus, the iPhones are locked so that you cannot just insert a SIM card from any other network to use the iPhones. In other words, you can only use the network specified by Apple. This is obviously a problem when you don't want to switch network. Furthermore, if you had just signed up a contract with a network, you would have to pay the penalty to end the contract. It took only 3 short months for the hackers to unlock the iPhone and therefore allows it to be used on any other cellular network. Just insert the SIM card. Initially, unlocking an iPhone requires disassembling of your precious iPhone. Not many would do this themselves and not everyone has the skill to undertake the task by himself for fear or damaging their beloved iPhone. Now, there's no need to do that. There are softwares available to do just that. Easy. As of this writing, the latest version of iPhone i.e. the 1.1.2 remained locked. There are hackers claiming to have unlocked this version but it has not been substantiated yet. However, what the hackers had successfully done was to downgrade the 1.1.2 iPhone to a 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 and then unlock it. No one has managed to unlock the 1.1.2 just yet. If you have the older versions - 1.1.1 (best version yet to unlock) or 1.0.2 then there are lots of unlocking softwares around, both free and paid. UPDATE: The latest version of iPhone is now 1.1.3. Obviously there's no one capable of unlocking this version yet. We'll keep you up-to-date. How to Unlock an iPhone?Ok, there's no need to know the method which requires diassembling the iPhone. You are not going to do that, are you? Basically, there are two types of unlocking software available - free and paid. Obviously the paid version provides a better and more stable unlocking job. This is done professionals who have unlocked thousands of iPhones. I would recommend the guys at iphonesimfree.com and they do have a support department. For free unlock software, I would not recommend them. You can search for yourself at search engines like Google or Yahoo!. These free softwares usually are not reliable and do not have restore function (in case of jammed phones). So, use at your own risk! OK, here are a few but use them at your own risk. These are softwares you can run on your computer. Nothing complicated. Just install the software, connect your iPhone to the computer, and run it. Easy.
Unlocking Voids Warranty? The short answer is yes. However, Apple only signed a two-year exclusive partnership with the networks they appointed. So after two years of iPhone lunch, we should expect the iPhone bought at that time and beyond will carry warranty from Apple Inc because they should not be locked like current iPhones.
